Spooky, Scary Newsletter | Early Autumn Newsletter

Hiya! Welcome to this month’s SYG newsletter!

I hope everyone has started to get into the spooky season kind of mood, the extent of it for me was making a hot chocolate with some pumpkin spice in it so hopefully you’re doing better than me!

Since I had to miss last month’s issue (apologies folks) I’ll be making this an extra long Halloween special newsletter so please read on to see all the ways you can get involved in SYG in the near future.

🗳️ Support 2 Young Greens in By-Elections

We have two council by-elections coming up where a Young Green is standing! That’s Jen Bell (@rightsandroses) in Linn Ward in Glasgow and Daniel Hooper-Jones (@Danhojo) in Mid Galloway and Wigtown West ward in Dumfries and Galloway. There will be loads of opportunities to campaign with us in these wards, including an action day on the 12th of November for Jen in Linn. It would be amazing to see young greens supporting young greens so look out for more campaigning days in the future.

UPDATES
What’s been going on?

✨ We were at conference in Dundee! The entire weekend was packed with loads of Greens to meet, speeches to hear and motions to discuss. It was also amazing to see so many young greens attending either in person and online, not only to represent us at conference, but to chat and mingle with to create a #GreenConf we wouldn’t forget. Our next Conference will be our Spring conference held on the waterfront of Clydebank on the 25th of March, so make sure to save the date and watchout for more info coming your way!

🌻 Recently, SYG council members Cameron, Eryn and I went to Brussels for a weekend in decentralisation training run by FYEG! We met lots of fellow Greens from all around Europe and were able to represent the progressive and youth-led visions we have here at SYG.

💚 Finally, the the Disable Greens recently elected their committee and is noe majority run by Scottish Young Greens. With SYG’s Chole Whyte elected as Co-Convener! I can’t wait to see all the things the committee with achieve this year!

WE HEREBY STAN…
📢 Shout-outs for seriously fantastic folk

This newsletter’s shoutout goes to Ruth Elliott (@faerielightss) for her continued efforts within the SYG council and co-running the Lothian Young Greens! She is also currently prepping for the Lothian Young Green AGM on the 7th of November so if you live in the Lothian region and are interested to hear how to get involved in all things LYG make sure to check LYG socials and hop on to the online call!

OPPORTUNITIES ‘N THAT
A chance to join or chair!

✏️ Apply to be on Our Working Groups

SYG have extended our deadlines to apply to each of our working groups. This is your chance to have a say in 5 different areas of SYG. Including: Welfare & Conduct , Policy, Social media, Events and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion. You can apply using this form here!

🙌 Chair a Scottish Green EGM!

The Standing Orders Committee are looking for volunteers to be the chair or assistant chair of the EGM coming up on the 26th of November. Chairs usually do the speaking in between speeches as well as ensuring timekeeping is kept and debates are run smoothly. You can email Fiona at soc@scottishgreens.org.uk to ask any questions or to put yourself forward!

GOOD NEWS!
To brighten up your day ☀️

Recently, the Gender Recognition Reform bill passed stage 1 in the Scottish Parliament! This bill, if passed the final stage, will be hugely beneficial to trans people and SYG was very happy to see all 7 Green MSPs vote in favour of the bill!

Now that the spooky season has passed I’m sure the Holiday season will be in full swing very soon (if not already!) so any non-Halloween stans that happen to stan other festivals like Christmas (me!) will be getting their time to shine!

Until then, wishing you a nice and cosy November
