Cancel Student Rent | December Newsletter

Happy new year!

In what is surely the worst thing to happen over the festive break *ahem* we are sending this newsletter two weeks late.

We think it's worth the wait.

Just for members
A workshop on climate

Sean, we want to give more value and training to you, as a member. That's why we've partnered with Climate Collage.

What is Climate Collage?
Climate Collage is a gamified workshop that trains people in the science of climate change. The unusual bit is it is actually *fun* and empowering, while being very real about the science. We find the answers and then propose solutions together.

So what?
Our Council did the workshop and loved it. One of us is now a trained facilitator and so we can offer free workshops just for SYG members. We're really excited about this opportunity.

Where do I sign-up?
Just reply "I'm in" to this email as soon as possible. If it's popular enough, we'll do it!

Cancel student rent

We're in full campaign mode. While Patrick Harvie and Ross Greer fight for students in parliament, Glasgow Young Greens are working with student tenants unions on the ground. In universities, UWS Greens are pushing their Student Council to support rent refunds, contract cancellations, and eviction bans.

Campaign win
A fairer assessment system for students

UofG Greens have led a successful campaign backed by hundreds of students. Calling on the University to bring in a fairer assessment system, they've already won concessions and there's more coming in the next few day. Keep your eyes peeled, kids.

We hereby stan...
Rent strikers

Society is changed by people demanding change in numbers; education is destroyed by uni execs who care more about property accumulation than student welfare.

Power to the student rent strikers.

Good News December
Cutting carbon could reduce warming quickly

A study on climate change has been released and it's *checks notes* good news. The study suggests that if countries start radically cutting emissions, then warming should slow down very quickly over the next 20 years.

We still need politicians who give a shit, but the fact there's a potential medium-term benefit might just help them do that. Maybe.

P.S. huge congrats to the newly elected members of the UWS Greens committee!
